About Prairie Vascular Institute

Prairie Vascular Institute A Destination of Hope

Prairie cardiologists long ago realized that the same risk factors, genetic makeup and body chemistry that causes heart disease also triggers various diseases of the vascular system such as:

Claudication (pain in the legs)
Non-healing leg or foot wounds
Stroke or mini-stroke (TIA)
Aortic Aneurysm
Renal artery stenosis
Varicose Veins

For years, Prairie Cardiologists have researched vascular disease and found new ways of treating it. Now, these years of research and experience have resulted in the creation of the Prairie Vascular Institute which emphasizes prevention, early detection and minimally invasive procedures to prevent and treat circulatory problems before they occur.

Prairie's success has been due in large part to its commitment and ability to attract nationally recognized specialists who bring unique experience and knowledge not available anywhere else in the region.

Prairie's commitment to fighting vascular disease is the same. Just as cardiologist is a highly trained specialist in diseases of the heart, a vascular internist is a specially trained physician who specializes in diagnosing diseases of the vascular system. Dr. Kolluri, Prairie's Vascular Internist, was recruited by Prairie Cardiovascular Consultants from the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Kolluri will be the first and only vascular internist in Illinois.

Once vascular disease is diagnosed and if medicines are unable to treat the disease, new and unique techniques are available to treat the disease without the need for surgery.

The time of large surgical incisions with many complications is quickly coming to an end. Prairie cardiologists who specialize in vascular interventions are now able to open blockages in many areas of the body by means of new techniques called endovascular therapy. These techniques include balloon angioplasty and stenting. Diseased vessels are approached from the inside and are opened without the need for major surgical incisions. Patients have a much shorter hospital stay and results have been gratifying.

Dr. Krishna Rocha-Singh, Dr. Greg Mishkel, Dr. John Gill, Dr. Ray Kacich, Dr. Jeff Goldstein, Dr. Nilesh Goswami and Dr. Mike Kelley make-up Prairie's team of endovascular specialists and represent the state's most experienced team of physicians specializing in this new area of vascular medicine.

A specialized facility, with specialized physicians and staff and state-of-the-art equipment dedicated to the prevention, education, diagnosis and treatment of vascular disease all focused on creating a better quality of life for patients. Springfield is truly a destination of hope for those who struggle with vascular disease.
